Arnold G. Shapiro, MDBoard-Certified Psychiatrist
Collaborative Treatment Approach — we discuss pros and cons of all treatment options and decide together.
Family-Like Environment — treated exactly as I would treat my own family members.
Same-Day Response — extremely accessible — we get back to you almost always the same day.

Three steps. No mystery.
Whether you're calling for yourself or for your child, the path is the same — and you'll know exactly what to expect at every step.
Call — and reach a person
You'll hear back the same day, almost always. We answer the awkward questions first — fees, insurance, and whether this practice is the right fit — before anything is scheduled.

Start a plan that fits you
Your diagnoses explained plainly — what's definite, what's still being considered — with options laid out as Plan A, B, and C. Then we adjust together until you're actually feeling better.

View Treatment-Resistant careWhen standard treatments haven’t fully worked, the answer is usually a more careful look.
Many people I see have already been treated by a primary care doctor or family physician who did the right thing for what they saw — tried Prozac, Paxil, Wellbutrin, or one of the standard options. Sometimes it works for a year and then stops. Sometimes the side effects make it untenable. Sometimes the original diagnosis only captured part of what’s actually going on.
About one in three people don’t fully respond to first-line treatment — and that’s not your fault. When two or more medications haven’t worked, we call the condition treatment-resistant, and the work shifts: re-examining the diagnosis, looking at every symptom that hasn’t fully cleared, and adjusting carefully every month until things actually feel right. That’s the work I’ve spent 35+ years on. The guides below walk through how it’s done for each condition.
No one else shows you their evaluation. We will.
Most psychiatric intakes are a 15-minute checklist. Ours is a two-clinician evaluation that takes the time your story deserves — and every step of it is published on this site, so you know what you're getting before you ever pick up the phone.

What Makes Us Different
"There's no 'one-size-fits-all' approach. Together, we'll map out the treatment plan that fits your unique situation and circumstances. If something isn't working, we adjust. If you need backup plans, we create them. You're never alone in this journey."
Our Unique Approach
Our practice is built around a thorough, multi-session evaluation process. We invest more time in evaluation than many practices can afford to under insurance constraints — that's a deliberate trade-off we made when we chose to be out-of-network.
"I believe in careful use of medication combined with psychotherapy. I am a strong believer in close work with the patient, keeping up with the newest information in the field, and finding a treatment regimen best suited for each individual patient."
Unlike many psychiatrists that only prescribe medication, or programs that can only offer therapy, our practice is based on the research-proven fact that patients who require mental health care often respond best to a combination of therapy and medication. In our practice, we can provide both therapy and medication management.
